Let’s start by briefly explaining what are the cryptocurrencies.
Like the Euro, Dollars or Yen, cryptocurrencies are means of exchanging value between its users. Contrary to traditional currencies, cryptocurrencies are exchangeable without intermediaries. No need to have a bank to centralize the exchanges. It works through a decentralized computers network.
The first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, was created in 2009.
Bitcoin (BTC) was barely worth a few cents when it was created and is now worth over $ 32,000 with an ATH (All Time High) reached in April 2021 at almost $ 65,000. You can see here below the graph of the evolution of the Bitcoin price.
Since then, new cryptocurrencies are regularly created with new projects based on blockchain technology. Examples include Ethereum (ETH), Polkadot (DOT), Ripple (XRP), Cardano (ADA), Binance coin (BNB), etc.
XRP had an outstanding performance in 2017 of 36,000% (ATH 3,38USD) and in 2021 +850% at the highest pick.
BNB in 2017 had a performance of 8,000% and in 2021 +3635% at the highest pick.
The craze for cryptocurrencies is punctuated by successive cycles of significant increase period called Bull run and decrease periods called bear market. These cycles bring lots of investment opportunities.
Looking a bit to the past, already in 2017, there were exponential increases in some cryptocurrencies:
